Answer
PROBLEM
When viewing the 'Fax Server' Node of the GFI FaxMaker Monitor, the following error may be seen: Brooktrout unit 0 does not support fax.ENVIRONMENT
- GFI FaxMaker
- Windows Server 2008 (all versions)
- Windows Server 2012 (all versions)
SOLUTION
Solution 1 (If fax lines are 'Uninitialized')- Review and follow: How to disable User Account Control (UAC)
- Review your anti-virus to see if it is interfering with either GFI FaxMaker or Brooktrout
- If Solution 1 does not resolve the error, please proceed to Solution 2
Solution 2 (If fax lines are 'Uninitialized')
- With UAC disabled and anti-virus exclusions set as necessary, proceed to reinstall the TR1034 drivers as noted in: How to re-install Brooktrout TR1034 drivers
- If the error still persists, attempt to load the device with the TR1034 Diagnostic as described in: How to use the Dialogic Brooktrout TR1034 diagnostic tool
- Note: If the TR1034 drivers are not installed, loading the TR1034 Diagnostic utility will install these drivers
Solution 3 (If fax lines are 'Waiting for call' and/or 'Idle)
- The GFI FaxMaker Server service has a depency on the Brooktrout Boston Host service
- To prevent this error message during each time the system boots, set the following service startup types:
- Brooktrout Boston Host service = Automatic
- GFI FaxMaker Server service = Automatic (Delayed Start)
CAUSE
- Environmental factors are affecting the communication between GFI FaxMaker and the Brooktrout TR1034 Drivers
- If the Brooktrout service is not already running when the GFI FaxMaker Server service starts, the error 'Brooktrout unit xx does not support fax' will show for each of the fax lines; the time of the errors will match when the computer was booted.
