Error: '9994 The GFI FAXmaker Message Transfer Agent service terminated' when starting the MTA service

Overview

When attempting to start the GFI FaxMaker MTA service, the following error is encountered: 

'The GFI FAXmaker Message Transfer Agent service terminated with service-specific error 9994'

ENVIRONMENT

  • GFI FaxMaker
  • all supported environments

SOLUTION

  1. Go to Start > Run > type 'services.msc'
  2. Locate GFi FaxMaker Message Transfer Agent and right click it 
  3. Click Properties
  4. Go to the Log on tab
  5. Set this to log on as a local machine administrator

CAUSE

The GFI FaxMaker Message Transfer Agent service does not have enough permissions to start.
