Overview
When upgrading GFI FaxMaker 12 or higher to the latest GFI FaxMaker version, configuration settings are not retained. Ensure that on operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 2008 or higher, UAC (User Access Control) is disabled and effective - which means that the server needs to be rebooted after UAC has been switched off - and you have a full backup of the GFI FaxMaker folder of the version you wish to upgrade from.
Process
To reduce the risk of losing the configuration settings while upgrading, please upgrade from one version to another until you reach to the latest version. For example, if you're currently on GFI FaxMaker 12 and you wish to be on GFI FaxMaker 2014, your upgrade path would be to upgrade from 12 -> 14.3, then 14.3-> .2011, then finally 2011 -> 2014.
If the workaround isn't followed, then:
- Capture install.log and uninstall.log file from %Temp% folder.
- Capture the troubleshooting file.
- Escalate the case for counting purposes and consideration of a potential fix in future releases.
Confirmation
Verify that the configuration is retained in FaxMaker after the upgrade is completed successfully.
