Graphs are not visible in PDF reports for subnets

Summary

When going to Monitor > Subnets and creating a PDF report, or by doing a scheduled report, it is possible that the graphs for subnets will not show on the report, instead, leaving a blank space.

Overview

In v7.0.3 and below, when going to Monitor > Subnets and spending the time to generate a PDF report, it is possible in some situations not to see graphs related to the subnets, leaving just a blank set of axes. When PDF reports are generated, internal backend processes are invoked in order to get information from the database and turn the datapoints received into a graphical representation. There are times when the processes are unable to pull information related to subnets from the database properly and the result ends up being a blank graph.

Cause

The reporting mechanism in v7.0.3 and below would not take information from the database relating to subnets with special characters in the names (ie, ", !, /, &, (, etc.) These special characters are standard ISO-1 special characters. If they are in the name of subnets (and thus, that is the name that shows in the database), the back end processes would have problems taking the information related to them and displaying it.

Workaround

A workaround is to remove special characters from the subnet names and attempt to regenerate the reports.

Resolution

This problem has been resolved as of v7.0.3 update 1, so any upgrade of firmware past this point will contain this fix.

Additional Information

If on version 7.0.3u1 or later and are still experiencing these problems with the subnet PDF reports not generating properly, please contact Exinda TAC for assistance.
