How to uninstall GFI MailEssentials from a cluster environment

Answer

GFI MailEssentials can be uninstalled from a cluster environment as follows:

  1. From the node where GFI MailEssentials will be un-installed open the Cluster Administrator and change the Exchange Information Store Instance to Do not restart (Right click on the Exchange Information Store Instance > Properties > Advanced)
  2. From the node where GFI MailEssentials will be un-installed open the Cluster Administrator and change the SMTP Virtual Server Instance to Do not restart (Right click on the SMTP Virtual Server Instance > Properties > Advanced)
  3. Make sure that the node GFI MailEssentials will be uninstalled from is the owner of the Microsoft Exchange Virtual Server / IIS Group
  4. From the Cluster Administrator, take the GFI Resources offline
  5. Make a backup copy of ldapuserdb.dll and libdiraccessldap.dll in a location accessible to the other clusters
  6. On the first cluster node uninstall GFI MailEssentials from Control Panel > Add / Remove programs
  7. When ready move the Microsoft Exchange/IIS Group to another node where GFI MailEssentials is to be un-installed from and copy ldapuserdb.dll and libdiraccessldap.dll to the GFI MailEssentials directory
  8. From the Control Panel > Add / Remove programs uninstall GFI MailEssentials
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to uninstall GFI MailEssentials from the other cluster nodes
  10. Once GFI MailEssentials is uninstalled from every node, delete the following Cluster Resource from the Cluster Administrator
    • For GFI MailEssentials 12 build 20071005 and later: GFI MailEssentials Legacy Attendant Cluster Resource
    • For GFI MailEssentials 12 build 20070112 and earlier: GFI MailEssentials Attendant Cluster Resource
  11. Re-apply the settings modified in Steps 1 and 2 as desired and bring Online the Microsoft Exchange / IIS Server Group


Notes:

  • On a Microsoft IIS Cluster Setup, steps 1, 4 and 10 should not to be performed.
