Directory Harvesting Failing in the Dashboard and Logs Show 'Failed to Be Processed: Directory Harvesting'

Overview

In the GFI MailEssentials dashboard, a number of emails encounter the error:

Failed to be processed: Directory Harvesting

In ase_dirharveest.gfi_log.txt, the following entries are present:

"info   ","ase_dirharvest","Message ID: <OF501B6B2A.0376BE68-ONC1257927.00298A65-C1257927.002D36CB@notes.fresenius.de>"
"error  ","ase_dirharvest","MECHAN_USERS_UL is NULL!"

Root Cause

The access to the port of the global catalog 3268 is blocked.

Resolution

Ensure that the port for global catalog 3268 is open and accessible from the GFI MailEssentials machine. Verify whether there is a firewall which interferes the access from the GFI MailEssentials machine to the Domain Controller on port 3268.
