PROBLEM

The GFI MailEssentials Dashboard lists the following error: 'Bad user or password error occurred while trying to connect to POP3 server...'

SOLUTION

Ensure that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store is started and that the credentials are accurate.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to Start > Run, type services.msc, and click OK.

2. In the Services window, locate the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service in the details pane.

3. Right-click the service, and then click Start.

CAUSE

Emails are being downloaded from Microsoft Exchange server and the Information Store service is stopped. When the Microsoft Exchange Information Store is stopped, a POP3 connection can still be made. However when the password is provided, Microsoft Exchange server will give the error: 'Bad user or password error occurred while trying to connect to POP3 server...'.
