Answer
PROBLEM
The Personal Whitelist/Blocklist not visible in the configuration when MailEssentials is installed in SMTP mode.
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI MailEssentials
- All supported environments
SOLUTION
The Personal Whitelist/Blocklist can only be used when MailEssentials prior to MailEssentials 20 is installed in Active Directory Mode, therefore the only solution that will allow this feature to work is to install MailEssentials on a server joined to the domain. As of MailEssentials 20 Remote Active Directory can be selected during installation to allow access. This option can not be changed once the software has been installed.
CAUSE
The Personal Whitelist/Blocklist feature requires access to the Active Directory to query the users/mailboxes. When installed as SMTP mode, you can, in a way, select the mailboxes from being added to the license count and excluded from filtering, but there are also limitations, as features that query the Active Directory are not available unless using Remote Active Directory.
