This article provides more information about the repeated detection of KB890830 as a needed remediation.

Information

  • Due to the nature of this update, Microsoft has continued to use the same KB.
  • Every time there is an update for the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, the same KB is referenced.
  • The title or summary of the update should show the month or date of the missing update.
  • As a Cumulative Update, only the newest release is detected or needed.
NOTES:
  • Additionally, there have been times where the patch detection is broken on Microsoft's end, which causes LanGuard to report that the patch was successful in installation, and yet still needed.
    • This most recently occurred with the November 2019 updates and was resolved upon Microsoft publishing the December 2019 Cumulative Updates.
  • As this was broken on Microsoft's end, the wsusscn2.cab file and offline scans continually detected the patch as needed.
    • Since LanGuard also performs these types of offline scans, we have also reported it as needed, even after it was installed.
