Purging Patch Download History

Overview

LanGuard has two options for auto-downloading patches. The first is to download only the needed patches based on data collected from scans. Second is to download all patches, regardless of whether they are required or not. There are a few situations where a customer may need an archive of all patches, but since it takes a lot of space and time for downloading, the majority of customers download only required patches.

Symptoms

One common scenario where this would be useful is when a customer has mistakenly begun downloading all patches and is unable to clear the canceled downloads from the queue. The customer could see a big red "C" show up next to thousands of downloads indicating that the download was canceled but is unable to remove them.

Process

Manually clean-out the Download Queue table in %ProgramData%\GFI\Languard 12\table toolcfg_patchautodownload.mdb as follows:

  1. Stop all LanGuard services and close the LanGuard GUI.
  2. Make a copy of the toolcfg_patchautodownload.mdb file to your desktop or wherever you can make edits to the data.
  3. Open the database file up and open the Download Queue table.
  4. Delete all of the content in the Download Queue table.
  5. Save changes.
  6. Replace the existing toolcfg_patchautodownload.mdb with the one you edited.
  7. Restart the services.

Additionally, you should delete the unwanted patch files downloaded into the repository. If you don't delete them, LanGuard checks if any files are left there while you try to do the remediation jobs.
