Overview

Betternet is a VPN proxy that allows the users to browse the internet anonymously as it hides the IP address. This allows the users to bypass the Kerio Control restrictions and access the websites that are supposed to be blocked (i.e., Facebook.com, YouTube.com, etc.).

Betternet extension connects to ext-mi-ex-nl-ams-pr-p-3.northghost.com, so it is possible to create a filter rule that blocks *.northghost.com and that prevents the proxy to work.

This article explains how to add a filter rule to block Betternet.

Environment

Currently, this process has been tested for Chrome plugin extensions.

Process

1. Log in to the Kerio Control Administration page.
2. Go to Configuration > Content Filter > Content Rules.
3. Add a rule, as shown below:
   • Detected content: *.northghost.com
   • Source: Any
   • Action: Drop
     
     
     
     

Confirmation

Betternet VPN is now blocked successfully.
