Answer
PROBLEM
Flash videos are taking a considerable time to load or don't load at all.
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI WebMonitor
- All Supported Environments
SOLUTION
- Disable the Show download progress window option for Flash and FlashVideo in the Virus Scanning Policy
- Disable virus scanning of Flash and FlashVideo (not recommended due security risk)
- Add the website URL or the video link to the Whitelist (recommended)
CAUSE
In WebMonitor you can choose between two options to scan files, to scan using the status window or to scan without it. With the scan window enabled for flash videos, the video stream might not work at all. This is because the flash application receives an HTML file with the content of the download status window, which is not the content it is expecting.
When the download status window is not enabled, WebMonitor will download the full content, scan it, and then give it to the flash control. Depending on the video size, it can take a lot of time. In the meantime, so that the connection is not closed, WebMonitor sends back a few bytes back to the client control which may look like a very slow loading of the video.
