Error: '502 Proxy Error. An error occurred. (1359)' when loading the GFI WebMonitor Console

PROBLEM

When loading the GFI WebMonitor console, you see the following error:
 
Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. An internal error occurred. (1359) 
IP Address: <ip of server>
Date: <date/time [GMT]>
Server: <server name>
Source: web filter 

ENVIRONMENT

  • Microsoft TMG Server
  • GFI WebMonitor

SOLUTION

  1. Verify that within a browser you can access the GFI WebMonitor interface by using the URLS described in this article:  http://www.gfi.com/support/products/gfi-webmonitor/How-to-configure-remote-access-to-the-GFI-WebMonitor-configuration
  2. Make sure you have the proxy settings enabled on Internet Explorer on the TMG server, then try running the console again

CAUSE

Without the proxy settings, the TMG server may not know how to process the request and fail to load the console.
