Exinda Release Nomenclature

Overview

This article explains the nomenclature and labeling of versions in Exinda.

Information

Starting in ExOS 6.4.1, we adopted nomenclature for specific releases Exinda firmware. Each version will have the following structure:

Major.Minor.Dot Type

See the below table for further details:

Element Description
Major

Sweeping changes in the product. Major new functionality added, e.g., a brand new User Interface with new capabilities.

Minor

A large new feature set added, usually multiple bigger features, e.g., high availability for accelerated deployments and full MAPI support.

Dot

Minor new functionality, e.g., new Layer 7 signature update.

Type

This designates the type of release:

  • Blank: this is the first available release of that version, e.g., 6.4.1 will be the first 6.4.1 release.
  • Beta X: this is a pre-release of the version. Exinda has delivered a pre-release to select customers to get their feedback on the new capabilities. The X represents the iteration of the beta release. Some versions may only have one Beta release, while others may have three or four. It depends on the size of the release.
  • Update X: this is an update to the Dot release. It does not contain new features, it will only contain bug fixes that have been found internally or through Customer Support cases.

See the below examples for better illustration:
