Overview
After rebooting an Exinda appliance on a firmware before version 6.4.5, multiple emails are received stating the following error message:
Unexpected exit of datad.
Root Cause
When the Exinda appliance initiates, the processes come online as quickly as they can. Occasionally, the database is delayed in the startup due to processing or Disk IO limitations. Processes that rely on the database being available by the time they start up, including datad, will generate an error and stop executing, attempting to restart to get a connection. Depending on how long the database can take to start, the processes will try multiple times and fail. By default, the Exinda sends out an email notification when processes fail this way.
Prior to version 6.4.5, these email notifications were sent out during the bootup sequence, even though the process would eventually come up with no problems once the connection to the database was established.
Resolution
The emails during startup sequences were suppressed in version 6.4.5. Upgrading to version 6.4.5 or later will stop emails during startup.
