Overview
This article provides instructions to prioritize or throttle traffic to a low amount bandwidth.
Process
Follow the instructions as below:
-
Find or create an Application Object:
-
Navigate to Configuration > Objects > Applications to find an already existing Application Object. There are many Application Objects already created by default in the software.
-
If there is a type of traffic which needs to be throttled and it doesn't already exist, create a new Application Object.
-
-
Create a policy using the Application:
-
Navigate to Configuration > Optimizer > Policies.
-
Enter an appropriate name for the policy, e.g.
Throttle Windows Updates
. -
Select the Application(s) which need to be throttled, for this article, select Windows Updates as an example.
-
Click the checkbox beside the Guaranteed Bandwidth, and set the burst priority, guaranteed bandwidth and burst bandwidth (can either be in Kbps or %).
-
-
Add the policy to the Optimizer in an appropriate order position:
-
Navigate to Configuration > Optimizer > Optimizer.
-
Find the Virtual Circuit in which the traffic needs to be throttled.
-
At the bottom of that Virtual Circuit, select the newly created policy from the drop-down box.
-
To the left of the drop-down box, enter an Order Number; this should be a low number, so the policy goes to the top of the policy tree to ensure that the traffic hits the throttling policy before anything else.
-
Click Restart Required and restart the Optimizer (not the device).
-
-
Verify that policy is working:
