Overview
HTML Sanitizer: Received emails have their links, images or scripts removed even though the UI logs show the message was processed as [OK].
Avoid broken links in sent or received items.
Root Cause
HTML Sanitizer scripts the email of scripts.
Resolution
When HTML Sanitizer acts upon an email to remove scripts, the UI would not log this information.
In order to understand if the item has been stripped of scripts, the EmailSecurity log of Html Script Removal.gfi_log.txt should be inspected by a support technician.
The most common occurrence of broken links after being processed by GFI MailEssentials is with this module, HTML Sanitizer.
-
As a test to confirm this:
-
Open MailEssentials UI > EmailSecurity > HTML Sanitizer > uncheck to disable the module > Hit Apply.
-
Check if the issue is still occurring.
-
-
If the issue was addressed:
-
Leave the module disabled, or
-
Enable the module and Whitelist the email addresses or domains from the Whitelist or Domain\IP Exclusions tabs.
-
-
If the issue is not resolved:
-
Consider disabling MailEssentials for a quick test.
-
Start > GFI MailEssentials > Switchboard > Troubleshooting > Disable email processing and hit apply.
-
Check if the issue occurs.
-
-
If the issue still occurs:
-
Re-enable MailEssentials email processing.
-
MailEssentials is not at fault and there is another process in the chain that causes this behavior.
-
Validation
Retest the same item provided.
