Overview

This article contains information regarding the supported MS Exchange server roles for GFI MailEssentials installation in a Microsoft Exchange environment.

Information

• When installing GFI MailEssentials on the same server as Microsoft^® Exchange 2010 or later, no pre-install actions or configurations are required.
  
  
• In Microsoft^® Exchange 2010 environments, GFI MailEssentials can only be installed on the servers with the following roles:
  • Edge Server Role.
  • Hub Transport Role.
  • Hub Transport and Mailbox Roles - with this configuration GFI MailEssentials can also scan internal emails for viruses.
    
    
• In Microsoft^® Exchange 2013/2016, GFI MailEssentials can only be installed on the servers with the following roles:
  
  • Edge Transport role.
  • Mailbox role.
