How to move data from an Microsoft Access database into a Microsoft SQL / MSDE database

Answer

Step 1: Configure Microsoft SQL as the Backend database of the GFI Products

Please refer to the respective GFI product manual so as to setup the databases to be stored to Microsoft SQL database rather than Microsoft Access MDB. Once this has been done verify that the databases has been created via the Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager.

Step 2: Moving the data from Microsoft Access to Microsoft SQL

Note: Before starting the move, it is recommended to backup all databases that are going to be moved to Microsoft SQL.

  • GFI MailEssentials: Close the configuration, and stop the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Admin and all the GFI MailEssentials services. You should also take note of any dependent services that are stopped during this process

Follow the steps found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;285829 so as to move the information from the Microsoft Access database to Microsoft SQL database.

Once the data move has been completed you can restart the services stopped earlier and any dependencies these services may have.
