No Computers Listed in GFI EndPointSecurity Console

Overview

The user had several computers controlled by GFI EndPointSecurity but now no computer is listed in Configuration > Computers tab.

Requirements

Local administrator permissions on the server where GFI EndPointSecurity is installed.

Root Cause

Files toolcfg_computers.xml and / or toolcfg_computergroups.xml are degraded.

Resolution

  1. Confirm if C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\EndPointSecurity 6\Data\toolcfg_computers.xml and/or C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\EndPointSecurity 6\Data\toolcfg_computergroups.xml are degraded. Both should be valid XML files so they cannot be blank or have a different structure than a tagged text file.

  2. Close the GFI EndPointSecurity console.

  3. Open the Services console and stop the GFI EndPointSecurity Service.

  4. Rename toolcfg_computers.xml to toolcfg_computers.old

  5. Rename toolcfg_computergroups.xml to toolcfg_computergroups.old

  6. If you have a backup of the files, restore them, otherwise, download the default blank files from the below links and replace the existing ones (please remember computers should be added once more if these downloads are used):

  7. Start the GFI EndPointSecurity Service.
