GFI EndPointSecurity is blocking a device the user should be able to access

Answer

PROBLEM

GFI EndPointSecurity is configured to allow a specific user to access a device. The user is logged in to the machine using Terminal services and may successfully access the said device. However when a second user logs in to the machine, GFI EndPointSecurity is blocking access to the device for all users.

ENVIRONMENT

  • EndPointSecurity
  • Terminal server
  • All Supported Environments

SOLUTION

Workaround: Temporarily whitelist the device.

CAUSE

This issue will occur if Windows lists the device as being used by the system account and not by the real user.

In such situations, GFI EndPointSecurity will check the configuration for all users logged on to the machine. The settings of the most restricted logged on user will apply to all users logged in to the machine.

Note:
  • This issue mostly occurs with certain imaging devices but may also occur with any device which shows as being accessed by the system account.
