Move-to-Exchange-Folder action does not work with GFI WebMonitor installed on the same machine

Answer

PROBLEM

The Move-to-Exchange-Folder action is not working on a machine with GFI Webmonitor installed.

The logs would show the following 407 error:

"error ","QAS.MTEF","ERROR: The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required."

ENVIRONMENT

  • GFI MailEssentials
  • GFI WebMonitor Standalone Proxy
  • Microsoft Exchange 2010

SOLUTION

GFI WebMonitor 2015 or later
  1. Open the GFI WebMonitor Management Console
  2. Select the Gear Icon > Settings in the top right
  3. Locate the  Core Settings > Connection Settings
  4. Under "Proxy Authentication" add in the Server IP to exclude from proxy scanning
  5. Select Save to apply the change
GFI WebMonitor 2013
  1. Open the GFI WebMonitor configuration
  2. Navigate to  Proxy Settings > Authentication Method
  3. Add the local Server IP address to the Exception List under the Proxy Authentication section

CAUSE

GFI WebMonitor is configured to require proxy authentication. GFI MailEssentials will use Autodiscovery on a Microsoft Exchange 2010 server and cannot authenticate itself on the proxy server, hence Autodiscovery will fail and subsequently the Move-to-Exchange Folder action will also fail.
