Overview
When trying to use exceptions for users like NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
or NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON
under the Licensing Node, the changes cannot be saved and the below message is displayed:
Invalid user
Process
- Stop all the GFI WebMonitor services.
- Navigate to
GFI\Webmonitor\Data
and make a backup of FilterRules.xml in another location. - Open the file with Notepad and search for "license excepted users". These exceptions need to be added there:
S-1-5-18 NT Authority\System false S-1-5-19 NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE false S-1-5-20 NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE false S-1-5-7 NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON false
.- The file should then look like:
7445a679-c3dd-45fe-8bdf-a5c694afa139 license excepted users 0 true Regular 0001-01-01T00:00:00 Allow 127.0.0.1 S-1-5-18 NT Authority\System false S-1-5-19 NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE false S-1-5-20 NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE false S-1-5-7 NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON false
.
- Save the changes.
- Start the services stopped in step 1.
Note: The users will not appear on the list of exceptions, but they should not be counted anymore.
Important: This is only a workaround and if the client changes any policy via the user interface, those changes in the XML file will be lost and will need to be re-added after.
