Whitelist Not Displayed Error: "Access to the database file is not allowed"

Overview

After upgrading to GFI MailEssentials 2015, the User Interface no longer displays the Whitelist/Blocklist. The MailEssentials.ControlLists.DAL logs display the following error:

"MailEssentials.ControlLists.DAL","Error: Error Message: Access to the database file is not allowed. [ File name = C:\Program Files\GFI\MailEssentials\Antispam\Data\ControlLists.sdf ]"

Environment

Upgrade to GFI MailEssentials 2015.

Root Cause

Necessary permissions are not granted.

Resolution

  1. Locate the Controllists.sdf file in the following directory ...GFI\MailEssentials\Antispam\Data.
  2. Right-click on the tab Database > Security.
  3. Locate the Everyone entity and grant it full permission to the database.
  4. Restart the GFI MailEssentials Attendant service.
