Monitoring Machines Which Are Part of a Workgroup in GFI EndPointSecurity

Overview

This article provides information about monitoring machines which are part of a workgroup in GFI EndPointSecurity.

Information

GFI EndPointSecurity can monitor machines which are part of a workgroup in the following situations:

If GFI EndPointSecurity is installed on a machine which is part of a domain, both Domain users/groups and Workgroup users/groups can be monitored. This can be done as follows:

  • When adding a Domain user/group, select the domain as the source of the objects to be added.
  • When adding Workgroup users/groups, it is necessary to first configure the same user/group on both the GFI EndPointSecurity machine, local users and groups, and on the Workgroup machine. It is then necessary to select the user/group from the local machine. Therefore, the local machine needs to be specified as the location of the objects to be added.

If GFI EndPointSecurity is installed on a machine which is part of a Workgroup, it is only possible to monitor users/groups which are part of the Workgroup. However, the same users/groups which are being monitored need to be manually created on each computer in the workgroup which needs to be monitored.

Note: If GFI EndPointSecurity is installed on a Domain Controller machine, it will only be able to monitor Domain users and groups. Workgroup users and groups cannot be monitored with such an installation of GFI EndPointSecurity.
